Black Oxford

King of Tompkins County

DESCRIPTION

This is a large, crimson-striped, juicy, and sweet apple with a greasy skin. The King of Tompkins County is highly prized for sauce- and pie-making due to its overall flavor. Look for these giants in September and October. They store well.

HISTORY

The King of Tompkins County might better be named King of Warren County, New Jersey, as that is where it was first grown. It was brought to Tompkins County, New York, in 1804 by Jacob Wycoff where it enjoyed great popularity in the 1800s.
