Ashmead's Kernel
DESCRIPTION
Ashmead's Kernel may have a dull appearance, but what it lacks in looks, it makes up for in flavor. It has become a popular heirloom variety for cider-making for that reason. It tends to sweeten after it is picked, usually in September and October.
HISTORY
A doctor in Gloucester, England in the 1700s, first grew Ashmead's Kernel from seed (kernel means fruit seed).
