Calville Blanc d'Hiver

DESCRIPTION

Calville Blancs are large ribbed apples with a tart light yellow flesh. This antique variety ripens in late October through December. Its flavor improves in storage as does its warm coloring. Some people can detect a distinct banana-like taste in Calville Blancs.

HISTORY

Calville Blancs were a favorite of Thomas Jefferson who grew them at Monticello. They date back to the 1500s.
