Spartan

DESCRIPTION

The Spartan is a dark red, ribbed apple with aromatic skin and firm, crisp, bright white flesh. Not an especially good cooking apple, it excels as a fresh eating apple that stores well for three months. It is generally ready for picking in mid-October.

HISTORY

A cross between McIntosh and Newton Pippin, the Spartan was developed at the British Columbia Experimental Station in 1936.
