DESCRIPTION

Originating in Newtown, Long Island, Newtown Spitzenburg were first cited in 1817. Often confused with two other varieties, Vandevere and Esopus Spitzenburg, it is crisp, aromatic, with outstanding flavor, mildly tart mingled with sweet. It bears unreliably, is not considered attractive due to its dull red color, and is too small to be marketable.
